Same-Day Discipline
We schedule the way commercial service contracts always required — same-day where the day allows, not 'sometime this week.'
Founded in 2011 by Craig Halvorsen, we bring the same same-day discipline commercial properties have always demanded to homeowners across Schaumburg and the northwest suburbs.

Before there was a Schaumburg Garage Door Repair Group, there was close to a decade of me driving between service calls with a work order clipped to the dash. I spent that stretch as a facilities-maintenance technician contracted to commercial properties around the Elk Grove Village Business Park and the retail corridor near Woodfield — servicing loading-dock doors, overhead doors, and commercial openers for warehouses, distribution buildings, and big-box retail. Those accounts ran on service contracts, and every one of them guaranteed same-day response. No exceptions, no apologies — a technician showed up that day, because it was written into the deal.
What struck me, working that circuit year after year, was the gap sitting right next to it. Homeowners a few miles away in Weathersfield or Hoffman Estates calling about a broken spring or a door stuck open didn't have a contract behind them. They'd call one of the bigger regional outfits and wait days for the next opening, garage door wide open or stuck shut the whole time. The commercial side of the business got treated like it mattered because paperwork said so. The residential side got whatever was left over.
A stuck garage door isn't a minor inconvenience for most homeowners — it's the biggest moving object in the house, it's usually the main way in and out, and a failed torsion spring under load is a genuine safety hazard, not just an annoyance. The technical standards groups like the International Door Association publish around spring tension, track alignment, and opener safety exist for a reason. I'd spent years applying that level of care to commercial doors because a contract required it. It never made sense to me that a homeowner's door should get a lower standard of attention just because nobody was billing a facilities manager for it.
That's the gap I set out to close — not by cutting corners to compete on speed, but by bringing actual contracted-response discipline to residential calls: real diagnostic work, a real technician who answers the phone, and a free upfront quote before anything starts.
I started Schaumburg Garage Door Repair Group in 2011, which puts us at 15 years in business as of this year. I still do most of the technical work myself — diagnosing spring failures, opener issues, off-track doors, the full range of garage door repair calls that come in day to day — and I personally train every additional technician who joins the crew. That's not a scale-back-and-franchise plan; it's deliberate. The standard that got built driving between commercial contracts doesn't hold up if it slips the moment the company grows past one guy in a truck, so I've kept training hands-on rather than handing it off to a manual.
We work on both sides of the business now — full residential garage door service for homeowners, plus the commercial door and opener work I cut my teeth on originally — but the residential side is where this company actually started, and it's still the heart of it.
I live in the area myself, and I've coached recreational youth soccer through the Schaumburg Park District over the years — one of those small, ordinary ways of being part of a community rather than just doing business in it. Schaumburg has grown a long way from its incorporation in 1956 with a few hundred residents to one of the most populous villages in the country today, and a lot of that growth is neighborhoods full of the same kind of homeowners I used to hear about secondhand on the commercial side — people who just want a door fixed by someone who'll actually show up. You can read more about the village's own history and services on the Village of Schaumburg's website.
Every call still gets measured against the same yardstick I used on commercial contracts: how fast can a real technician actually get there, and how honest is the quote before any work starts. That's the standard behind our same-day emergency response and every installation or repair job we take on, whether it's a house in Weathersfield or a small commercial account near where I used to run contract routes. It's a simple standard, but it's the one that started this company, and it's the one I hold the crew to now.

When you call, you get someone who actually knows garage doors, not a dispatcher reading from a script.
You get a free upfront quote before any work starts, with no-surprise pricing once the job is underway.
I still do most of the technical work myself and train every technician personally so the standard doesn't slip as the crew grows.
This is a locally run business by someone who lives here, not a call center routing work to whoever's cheapest that week.
A real technician — either Craig Halvorsen himself or someone he trained personally, not a subcontractor dispatched from a call center. That's been the standard since the company started in 2011.
Yes. Craig's first decade in this trade was almost entirely commercial and industrial door work around the Elk Grove Village Business Park and the Woodfield corridor, and the company still handles commercial garage door repair alongside residential calls.
Craig Halvorsen founded the company in 2011, which makes 2026 our 15th year serving Schaumburg and the surrounding northwest suburbs.
We serve Schaumburg's neighborhoods along with nearby communities including Hoffman Estates, Palatine, Streamwood, Roselle, Elk Grove Village, Rolling Meadows, Hanover Park, Bartlett, and Inverness.
